An Introduction to EME 2040
Hello for whoever is interested, I am JP Gutierrez III. I am now a Sophmore at Florida State, majoring in Social Sciences in Education. My reason for getting this degree is to teach at my alma mater in Miami. The reason for me taking this class was to create a basis for how to teach online learning if needed. My goal is to teach History and coach Football. This degree path puts me on the best track to do so. I worked this summer as a swim intructor. I am now going to an Assistant Manager at my swim program. I like teaching kids how to swim is the most fufilling thing I have ever experienced.
My prior experiences with technology date back with High School. The majority of my High School work submissions were online. We learned using Ipads and Google classroom. I think that preparation has helped me realize how to do work online. The transition between using Google Classroom and then to Microsoft Office at FSU has been pretty seemlesss. I really enjoy Microsoft Office even though Canvas is not as helpful as I would like.
My personal learning network is surrounded by supportive people. My mom is a teacher herself and I like to discuss what I am learning in my education classes. I also have kept really close relationships with my High School teachers. I often ask them for information on classes I have and bring up discussions or topics when I call them regularly. A relationship I really value is my relationship with my Head Coach. I call him to ask questions on certain aspects of football that I am learning. The adjustment to moving back to Tallahassee has been difficult but with constan phone calls I felt that it has gotten easier.
Hi, JP, you are an athlete! Did you play football at high school? My son plays baseball but we are not sure he can play this fall or next spring due to Covid-19. I wonder how you can do social distancing in a pool. You cannot wear masks! Anyway, I think you already have a great teacher PLN in your real life. You will learn how to use technologies to expand/build your PLN as well. There are lots of online teacher communities you can interact with and get some useful resources.
